An evening of jazz and memory at the Ristori Theater
On 30 April 2026, on the occasion of International Jazz Day, Verona welcomes for the first time one of the most authoritative voices of world jazz: Eddie Henderson, an 85-year-old American trumpeter and flugelhornist, still able to take to the stage with an energy and instrumental mastery that take your breath away.
The appointment is at 8:30 pm at the Teatro Ristori, at Via Teatro Ristori 7, in the heart of the city.
The evening's programme revolves around "Miles Legacy", an artistic project with which Henderson pays tribute to Miles Davis, the musician who more than any other influenced and shaped his path. It is not just a simple re-evocation: it is a personal interpretation, filtered through decades of experience and an artistic sensibility built on unusual and fascinating roads.
Eddie Henderson's story is, in fact, anything but ordinary. Growing up in New York, son of a doctor and a dancer who performed at the Cotton Club, he pursued two parallel vocations with rare coherence: the musical one, honed at the Juilliard School where he would later also teach, and the medical one, culminating in a specialisation in psychiatry and a long career as a general practitioner. Two seemingly distant universes, yet both pursued with deep dedication.
Music, however, always had the final word. In the 1970s his name made its mark on the international scene thanks to his collaboration with the Headhunters, helping to define the language of jazz-funk and fusion and to build an ongoing dialogue with Davis's legacy. In subsequent years Henderson has continued to explore jazz in all its nuances, working alongside greats such as McCoy Tyner, Art Blakey and Joe Henderson.
During the evening the documentary "Dr. Eddie Henderson: Uncommon Genius" will also be screened, telling the story of his extraordinary double life between music and medicine, offering the audience a more intimate look at who this man really is.
