"Mirandolina" on stage from 24 February to 1 March 2026
There is a show really worth not missing in Verona these days. At the Teatro Nuovo on Piazza Viviani goes on stage "Mirandolina", a production by the City of Verona in collaboration with the Fondazione Atlantide Teatro Stabile di Verona, included in the 39th edition of Il Grande Teatro, one of the most enduring and appreciated theatre seasons in the city.
The starting point is one of the most famous texts in Italian theatre: "La locandiera" by Carlo Goldoni, a work that, almost three hundred years after its first Venetian performance, is still among the most-staged in the national repertoire. But this time the story is reworked through the pen of playwright Marina Carr, who signs a contemporary version of the Goldonian classic, able to speak directly to today's audience.
Carr's Mirandolina is not simply a tribute to tradition: it is a piece that looks reality in the face. At the centre of the narrative is a young, disoriented woman, surrounded by admirers and predatory figures, forced to deal with female fear and the cost of daring to react. A text that retains the charm of the original but adds depth, urgency and a wholly contemporary reading of power relations between the sexes.
The show runs from Tuesday 24 to Saturday 28 February with curtain at 8:45 pm, and on Sunday 1 March with curtain at 4:00 pm. For those wanting to delve deeper into the artists' work, there will also be a meet-the-actors event on Thursday 26 February at 6:00 pm, a rare and valuable chance to go behind the scenes of the production.
Tickets can be purchased at the Teatro Nuovo box office (Monday-Saturday 3:30–7:30 pm; Tuesday and Friday also 11:00 am–1:00 pm; Sunday 1 March from 2:30 pm), online at boxofficelive.it, or at BoxOffice, Via Pallone 16 in Verona (Monday-Friday 9:30 am–12:30 pm and 3:30–7:00 pm; Saturday 9:30 am–12:30 pm).
