📸 Event: Photographic exhibition and installation "The Reins of Freedom — Women and dress, a silent revolution" 📅 When: From 22 to 28 March 2026 — Opening on Sunday 22 March at 11:00 am 📍 Where: Corte Molon, Via della Diga 17, Verona â„šī¸ Info: Free admission — venue accessible to people with disabilities
From 22 to 28 March 2026, Corte Molon — the historic space of Villa Algarotti at Via della Diga 17 — hosts an exhibition really worth discovering. "The Reins of Freedom — Women and dress, a silent revolution" is not your classic photographic exhibition: it is a journey through six centuries of women's history, told via an unexpected and fascinating thread, that of horse riding. Photographs, period costumes and installations make up a journey that starts with Princess Anne of Bohemia — forced in 1382 to ride on a chair mounted on her horse so as not to compromise her "virginity" before the wedding — and arrives at the protagonists of the contemporary Olympics. In between, skirts weighted with lead to prevent the wind from revealing the ankles, corsets that take your breath away in the saddle, side saddles that caused fatal accidents. And then, suddenly, trousers. The scandal. Freedom. A detail that makes this exhibition even more meaningful: horse riding is today the only Olympic sport in which men and women compete on equal terms, without quotas and without concessions. 83% of the dressage riders of the International Equestrian Federation are women. A record that does not come by chance, but from decades of silent battles fought also in the saddle.

Vernissage, talk and demonstration: the opening of Sunday 22 March

The opening, set for Sunday 22 March at 11:00 am, is conceived as a true cultural event. There will be a free-entry talk animated by authoritative voices: Linda Fabrello (president of Horse Valley), Armando di Ruzza (Exhibition Manager of Fieracavalli), Marianna Montanini (president of Biancarosa Onlus) and Micaela Quartucci (director of the Emme Moda Institute in Verona). The moderator will be journalist Mario Marchi. The most spectacular moment will be the side-saddle riding demonstration by Federica Brolis, president of A.I.M.A. — Associazione Italiana Monta all'Amazzone. A discipline that for centuries was imposed on women as the only "decorous" way to ride, and which today is practised for its technical value and extraordinary historical importance. The exhibition is included in the "La Repubblica delle donne" calendar of the City of Verona, as part of the initiatives for International Women's Rights Day 2026. A context that underlines its cultural as well as artistic relevance.
