"Clitoridere": when comedy meets taboos

On 12 April 2026, Verona hosts one of the most provocative and intelligent shows in Italian stand-up comedy: Daniele Fabbri takes the stage at the Cinema Nuovo San Michele with "Clitoridere", a monologue that uses laughter as a tool to tackle things still talked about too little today β€” and often in the wrong way.

Fabbri, born in 1982 and a pioneer of stand-up comedy in Italy, is known for a direct, colourful language that does not seek scandal for its own sake, but aims to build an authentic, free relationship with the audience. In 2023 he won the Satira Prize at Forte dei Marmi for stand-up comedy. His credibility in the field is well established β€” and this show confirms it.

The title is not chosen by chance. The show takes its cue from a historical event: in 1559, a doctor who had identified a small piece of female anatomy ended up before the Inquisition charged with witchcraft and heresy. Today the Inquisition no longer exists, but the way society deals with certain topics β€” in medical, political and almost always censored tones β€” doesn't seem all that far from that era.

Through anecdotes, historical and scientific curiosities, Fabbri dismantles the clichΓ©s around sexuality with intelligence and irony, without slipping into vulgarity. The starting point is simple: sex is, first of all, a fun thing. And laughter is the best way to really talk about it.

"Clitoridere" defines itself as "an evening of oral sex" β€” in the most literal and least obvious sense of the term. The aim is to enjoy the freedom of speaking openly, not to provoke, but to be provocative in the noblest sense: stimulating a reflection too often missing at school, in the family, in popular culture.

It is worth recalling that Fabbri is currently being sued by the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni over an episode of his satirical podcast. In response, he launched the "Difendi La Satira" (Defend Satire) initiative, supporting comedians targeted by intimidatory lawsuits. A detail that says a lot about who he is, and what he stands for, also off-stage.

A show recommended for anyone who likes intelligent comedy, free speech and evenings that leave something β€” other than just the desire to laugh.
